Scope and objective of the course

To expose the students to the fundamental concepts related to Organic Chemistry. Study of nomenclature, isomerism, stereochemistry and reaction mechanism will give the foundation required for understanding the nuances of organic chemistry. The knowledge and understanding of name reactions will help them gain insights into the numerous approaches that are used in various complex synthetic transformations. The study of heterocycles (their nomenclature, synthesis and reactions) will allow the students to learn the reactions that are useful for designing and interconverting therapeutically important compounds. This course introduces the students to visualize molecules, their reactions and to appreciate the importance of knowing the theory behind the design and synthesis of novel biologically important compounds.
